News from the Masaryk University

Lukáš Šafář, a student of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, is one of the first students to be issued a micro-credential by Masaryk University. In total, the university issued almost two hundred micro-credentials in the last semester.

In his doctoral research, Andrei Kalavur from Belarus analyses the communication of supporters of the current authoritarian regime in Belarus. His research has attracted much attention at international conferences – most recently in Philadelphia.

Maria Zlobina is a structural biologist working at CEITEC. Normally she studies molecules and their possible bonds with RNA. But that is not all that she does in her laboratory. She uses the discoveries from the microscopic world and brings unique and original patterns to life… on textiles.

|
One of the strategic investment projects of the Czech Republic, the construction of a new BioPharma Hub at Masaryk University’s campus in Bohunice, has received approval from the Czech Ministry of Education for financial support amounting to CZK 2.4 billion from the European Union’s National Recovery Plan fund for the Czech Republic. The facility is the second-largest investment in the history of Masaryk University.

The Central Commission of the Czech Ministry of Transport has approved the plan for the reconstruction of the Brno railway junction. This is a key milestone in the modernization and reorganisation of the city’s rail network, as well as the construction of the city’s new main station. The construction work itself is expected to take place between 2028 and 2035.

On 27 July, an English-language walking tour of the centre of Brno, organised by TIC BRNO, will shed light on the city’s thriving café culture of the 1920s and 1930s, in the days of the first Czechoslovak Republic.

|
On Monday, 1 July, the Old Town Hall in Brno will become a national cultural monument. The proposal to enhance the level of protection of the city’s oldest secular building originated from the Ministry of Culture, and was approved by the Czech Government on 6 December 2023.
