International MU graduates debate at Czeducon

At the end of November, Czeducon, a conference on internationalisation in higher education, took place in Brno, attended by over 500 representatives of Czech and universities from abroad. The evening programme included Alumni talks with international graduates from Masaryk.

Japanese students Yumeka Takagi and Yuki Takada met and started dating while studying at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University. Now they have both switched to the Faculty of Pharmacy, where they are enjoying their studies very much.

New portal to help with learners with everyday and professional Czech

Our Language Centre has launched a new multilingual portal at czechonline.org. The portal offers free Czech language courses for everyday and professional Czech from sectors such as medicine, law and business. It has been identified as a key strategic project for the city of Brno in the #Brno2050 strategy.

MU best in Czechia in QS Sustainability Rankings

A total of 1,403 higher education institutions from 95 countries were assessed in the second edition of the QS Sustainability Rankings, which evaluates the contribution of universities to tackling the challenges of sustainable development. Masaryk University is ranked first in the Czech Republic and 161st in the world.

Ombuds already dealing with first cases

The protection of the rights of students and staff at MU has so far been covered by many mechanisms and processes across different departments. Now the University has centralised the protection of rights in one person and office. The new position is held by the Ombuds Eva Janovičová.

MUNI vs BUT

Once again, Brno went mad for university hockey. HC MUNI took on the team from the Brno University of Technology in front of a sold-out crowd. Things on the ice were even during the first two periods, but in the end, BUT won 3:1. However, fans of both teams still had fun, that they broke the record for the loudest sporting event in the history of the Czech Republic!

The Campus Advisor rates Brno 4th best student city in world

In the latest edition of The Campus Advisor’s rankings of the best student cities, Brno came in fourth place with a score of 4.55 out of 5. Nightlife, student friendliness, and public transport received excellent ratings. Taking the top three spots above Brno were Melbourne, Berlin, and Newcastle.

Brno Named ‘European Capital of Christmas’ For 2024

The international jury of the European Capital of Christmas award has decided unanimously to award as the winner of the 2024 title, in the category of cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The particularly high quality of Brno’s Christmas festivities and their relevance to the European Values of Christmas were two key factors that determined the Jury’s decision.

Moravské Náměstí Named ‘Park of the Year’ For 2023

Brno’s recently renovated Moravské Náměstí has been awarded the title of Park of the Year 2023. The winner was chosen by an expert jury on behalf of a group of professional landscape architecture associations, and announced on 19 October in Humpolec. This year, there were a record 30 works submitted to the competition, now in its 17th year.
