Sunday 28 January 2024 marked exactly 105 years since the founding of Masaryk University. The second oldest university in the Czech Republic will celebrate this anniversary with a series of events held throughout the year.

Masaryk University had its most successful year in terms of international university rankings measuring the quality of universities worldwide.

|
Nasrtullah Hasrat from Afghanistan wanted to be a doctor when he was young. When that didn’t work out, he ended up studying agriculture in his home country, which he didn't particularly enjoy. After two semesters, he decided to change his major to finance and ended up in a field he hadn’t even considered.

The inter-university course Preparing for the Francophone Labour Market proves that virtual courses are not dull and that new friendships can be forged even over long distances. The students from four European universities enjoyed the joint course so much that at the end of the semester they decided to come to Brno for the final presentation of their team projects.

For Colombian student Laura Catalina Sanchez Florez, her student exchange in the Czech Republic was a turning point. She was only supposed to stay in Czechia for a semester, but meeting her current boyfriend pushed her to fulfil her dream of living abroad. She has also completely changed her career plans and has started studying English for Teachers.

For more than forty years, students at Deakin University in Melbourne have been able to study their entire degree programme off-campus. Australian Emma Bolton is also completing her Bachelor's degree in this way. In her four years of study, she has never had a full-time class - until now at Masaryk University.

The laying of the foundation stone marked the beginning of the construction of the new educational infrastructure of Masaryk University and the new location of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The 20th Masaryk University expedition returned from Antarctica after spending two months on the icy continent. Logistical and weather problems made this expedition to the Mendel Polar Station the shortest so far.

The second edition of MUNI DAY will be a sporting and social event for the entire academic community. The Rector has declared the 16th of May as a University holiday for students. Employees may attend with the approval of their supervisor.

A new web application was launched on Friday presenting a 3D model of buildings in Brno, accurate to 20 centimetres and including precise modelling of roofs and chimneys. The model will be of great use to architects, designers, and city experts, while also being accessible to the general public.

From March 22 the Žlutý Kopec Reservoirs are finally open fully to visitors, making all three sites accessible for the first time. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of city representatives yesterday afternoon.

This year, on the weekend of 18-19 May, the Open House Brno 2024 festival will make the secret chambers of 112 locations in the city accessible to its visitors. The main themes of the 7th annual festival of architecture and urbanism are inclusion and accessibility.
